NETWORK THEORY : ABOUT ATM (ASYNCHRONOUS TRANSFERS MODE)

Asynchronous mode: asynchronous transfers mode means interaction between  user input peripheral and hardware components like processor ,cpu happens at different clock pulse .
for example if you want to interact with cpu of the computer primarly time taken for you is t1 seconds and the time taken by the cpu to interact with you is t2 seconds . that means time taken by you and cpu is different this is known as asynchronous mode .
ATM is a high speed network technology that has become the standardized solution for the telecommunication industry, teleconferencing ,videoconferencing, HDTV
Distance learning and
where high speed data transfer is required
.ATM technology integrates voice data and video at the same time .
ATM  protocol :
Atm uses fixed size pockets called cells of 55 bytes in length
.Atm network is a high speed circuit switched network that is capable of transferring one million signals using ATM protocol
.ATM is implemented in the wan and telecommunication sectors

ATM CELL BASE : it is a small unit of 55 bytes fixed length and it contains the users and signaling information on it
Atm cell identify the cell that belongs to the same virtual channels and perform easy routing I.

Atm switching  :
Atm switching technology provides high speed data transfer due to the connection oriented   technology

ATM switching technology uses the predefined routing table so guarantees the fast data
communication
ATM CONNECTIONS  :

Signaling

Signaling components exist at the endstation and at the ATM switch. The signaling layer of ATM software is responsible for creating, managing, and terminating switched virtual circuits (SVCs). The ATM standard wire protocol implemented by the signaling software is called the User Network Interface (UNI). The way one ATM switch signals another ATM switch comprises a second signaling standard, called the Network Network Interface (NNI).

ATM ADVANTAGES : It provides the fixed bandwidth and simple routing is possible due to the connection oriented technology
And it is the best solution for the telecommunication sector
ATM DISADVANTAGES The are some of the disadvantages of this technology such as
High cost ,cell loss due to the high congestion in the network
