In today’s education system, marks have become the one stop criteria to know a person’s knowledge and submission of assignments on time is a deciding factor of that one such students attitude. We live in a society where people call an IITian a successful engineer than a one who comes out with same engineering degree from a normal engineering college! Why? Why did this discrimination come in to picture? Is it the fault of the system or is it because we lack quality education at the right time of his living, so that he can crack IIT? Well, in my perspective, I agree students fail to believe in themselves too. The present generation students are okay to call their so-called friend who is studying in IIT or any reputed institution as a global student but never consider in within that: as an individual, you’re a global student too.
Being an Engineer from a reputed national/private institution doesn’t mean they are the qualified engineers. If yes, then why on earth still this factor come up that, there are lot more suicides cases being recorded from these reputed institutions. This happens when you differentiate/discriminate the students based on their performance in the examination but not in the talent within them.
In recent trends, I’ve been occupied to watch many open diplomatic statements by enthusiasts/fellow engineers/reputed dignitaries saying: The current generation engineers lacks practical knowledge. Well, the open question they eventually fail to understand is: Are these institutions providing the students what they actually need! Are these institutions giving a chance to the students to learn the way they wanted? By the way, I’m not complaining about the system here, it is being followed since ages and now is the time to change it. But that one question always stops is how effective is this system working every now and then. Current trends prove that, an institution completes its syllabus on-time! Bang on!! From the state where I live in, most of students including me(at times) believe in studying the day before exam with a book, which is popularly called One-Day Batting. What is point of studying one day before an exam when you’re actually wasting whole year sitting in the same class listening to the boring or disgusting by the way few creative and interesting lectures. It's just like cramming the whole syllabus in a single go without any practical approach or with no hands-on experience. There is two-way mistake here. It’s not just the management to be blamed, but also the students who got used to the easiest way possible to pass the examination. Because we live in a society which came to a conclusion to decide student talent by his/her marks but not with the uniqueness they have within.
But as a student we’ve always aspired to learn, but we failed because of these ruined rules of engineering currently which asks for assignments (which we copy from others. There's only one or two persons who complete the assignments and share their assignments with their fellow class mates), completion of notes (just writing the same old textbook in the notes or more of a guide which speaks important points) and by mugging up the answers which ultimately killed the innovative and enthusiastic engineer in us. And finally, what comes after 4 years might surprise you. We’ve been in this for 4 years of our most precious life and what we get out of this? A certificate with the name of one within, just to get laminated in nice frame to place probably in your hall. And when these so called B. tech degree holders turn into adults complain and regret saying: I shouldn’t have choose engineering as my career. That one thing most of the engineers out there of this present generation complain is that they regret for what they got in to! A life of regret and hopelessness is easier is all that we can say!!
