Pending assignments, semester exams, notes to write; while all of these are common problems that all of us face, apart from that there’s also no enough time to put family albums together, or knit a sweater, or learn a new language, or go to the movies, or have dinner parties, or get a new passion project.
You have long list of things to do and throughout the day you keep looking at the watch nervously and then you realize its 5 pm already! And you wonder where did the time go and that is the time when all of us wish there were more than 24 hours in a day. Now here is what can you help deal with it and find time for every thing. So read on and find out how time can work for you.
1. Find Out What You Really Want: "You will never find time for anything. If you want time you must make it" is a cliched quote that inspires all of us but we actual fail to implement it. To manage time you ought to make a list of things that you want to accomplish in the next week, and then analyse it. See what things will take you closer to your dreams, which of the tasks are you excited about? Is there anything that you can simply cut out completely? So get a clear idea about things which you want do.
2. Prioritize:
After the analysis the next step would be to prioritize them. The most important tasks that could be lucrative to ones career should be taken care of, and few tasks that are conducive to self-development. Apart from these make it a point to add personal things that add in a little energy to your soul; like watching movies, DIY projects or simply chilling with friends. Remember for a week more than 6 priority tasks would not serve the purpose and you would eventually feel overburdened. Always keep a little time for contingencies.
3. Learn To Say No:
We all have the same 24 hours in a day and it therefore becomes important to choose wisely. You cannot edit your friends project work when you have a task to finish. So one needs to be conscious about what it means to say a "yes". Also remember when you give your acceptance it adds on to your 'To-Do-List'. If it is going to drain your energy and would give you nothing in return, it is not a feasible idea because time is your investment here. If you keep stuffing your 'To-Do List' with things that do not fulfill you, you will never have time for what you truly want. It’s as simple as that!
4. Use Fringe Hours:
The fringe hours are free hours in the day that are not utilised. So after having done the analysis and prioritizing and also after learning how to say a 'No', you have ample time now. Say according to your schedule you have allotted two hours of your days time to study, and you finish it in an hour and thirty minutes, the unutilised thirty minutes you could use to do things that you always wanted to do; you can listen to an audio-book, menu plans for the week or simply a drive that would refresh you.
5. Stop Feeling Busy All The Time:
The one common mistake that everyone makes is over-scheduling which would lead to an unproductive, tired and unmotivated day. Even if things are lined up, you don't have to feel busy. We can approach each day with either the mindset of 'so little time, so much to do!' or 'there is plenty of time to get things done.' It is up to you which one you choose.
